Dear there
Things are getting exciting now that we are just a few weeks away from this year's Student Showcase performance, and I'm pleased to let you know I have finally been able to do the show running order.
Please check the running order carefully to ensure you don't have any back to back dances (I have checked them all, and asked teachers to check, but there's usually someone I've managed to overlook).
Also, next week is Costume Call Week, so you need to bring your costume to class.
Finally, the show is now sold out!! so I don't need to remind you that the early bird price was supposed to end today.

Running order
The Running Order is the sequence of dances presented in the show. It lists the item number, TV theme, teacher, dancers, and item duration.
As there are a lot of dancers doing more than one dance this year, it was quite a tough job to put together so no-one was in any items back to back.
📝 Task for you: Check through the running order to see when you will be onstage. If you are in back-to-back items or have less than two items between dances you are in, let me know via email to info@dragonflydance.com.au.

Costume Call Week
Monday 13 to Satuday 18 October
Costume Call week is the week that you bring your costume to class. The purpose is:
- to check that costume items are all correct, including legwear, shoes, hair, and accessories
- to give dancers the opportunity to become more comfortable and confident performing in their costume
- to check there are no problems with the costumes that might impede dancing
📝 Tasks for you:
- Prepare the things you need to bring to class this week, including your costume, any accessories, your shoes, legwear (eg tights or leggings).
- Read the Performer Guide to confirm you have the correct items
- For class, wear your hair as you will onstage, and wear the underwear you plan to wear onstage. Makeup is NOT required.
Arrive for class in your normal class wear (with underwear and tights (if applicable) already on). You can change into your costume when advised by the teacher.
Note: if you have not yet received your costume from your teacher, bring everything else as outlined above, as costumes may not have arrived this week to distribute to you.

Dress rehearsal
1-5pm Sunday 19 October, at Dragonfly Dance Studio
The dress rehearsal is the first full run through of the whole show. We will aim to run it as if it was the performance, but we may repeat some items if required.
- the purpose of the dress rehearsal is to test out the running order to identify (and recitfy) any problems
- gives the stage and tech crew the opportunity to practice and learn the cues
- gives dancers the opportunity to practice as if they are doing the show, in their costumes, which includes your entrances, exits, and curtain call.
In addition to your costume, accessories, leg and footwear, performance underwear and hair, you will also have full stage makeup.
Arrival
Arrive at the studio by 12.45pm (no later) so that you are ready to start at 1pm when the rehearsal is due to begin.
Please arrive with your hair and makeup done, as space and time to do so when you arrive are limited. Wear the underwear you will be wearing under your costume.
Makeup tips for male dancers
Here is a link to a Youtube video for male stage makeup. Male lipstick should be a tone darker than your natural lip colour.
Social media and photos
Our wonderful volunteer photographer Kevin Taylor will be at the dress rehearsal to take some photos in Studio 1.
Cathy Chittleborough will also be in the 'backstage' area taking more informal snaps and videos for social media. We have Amy Johnson do that last year and it was fantastic to capture the essence of the day (especially for me as I'm in Studio 1 the whole day and don't get to be part of that backstage magic, so I enjoyed getting to see it).
You are also free to take photos/videos to share on your social media, or you can share ours to your page or story:
- make sure there is no-one getting changed in the background of your photos
- ask permission before taking photos and confirm the person is happy for you to share
- tag @dragonflydanceadl, and use #DragonflyDanceflix.
📝 Tasks for you:
- Make sure to read the Dress Rehearsal section of the Performer Guide to find out all about what will happen on the day.
- Practice your hair and makeup before dress rehearsal day (refer to the hair and makeup section of the Performer Guide.

Join us for a drink after the show
Last year, some of us dropped into the Holdy (Holdfast Hotel) after the performance to unwind and celebrate what we'd achieved.
We would love to have many dancers from the cast come and join us. You may be on such a high afterwards that you'll love to catching up with other performers to debrief :)
We're not organising anything official, so no RSVPs are required.
