Heart Center Family,
As July unfolds, I find myself reflecting on something we talk about often at The Heart Center for Awakening: healing doesn't happen in isolation. While each of us walks our own unique path, there is something profoundly powerful about having a community that reminds us we don't have to walk it alone.
One of the greatest joys Asha and I experience as stewards of this space is watching relationships form — not just between teacher and student, but between people who may have entered our doors as strangers and leave as friends. There is something deeply healing about simply knowing there is a place where you are welcomed exactly as you are.
With that spirit in mind, we're excited to expand our free community offerings. Beginning this month, Asha will be leading a Free Community Meditation on the first Saturday of every month. On the remaining Saturdays, whenever a workshop is not scheduled, we'll gather for Free Community Yoga. We're also thrilled to offer Free Community Yoga every Monday evening at 7:00 p.m and every Thursday at noon. These offerings are our way of giving back to the community that has given so much to us, and we hope they'll provide a welcoming space for anyone seeking connection, movement, stillness, or simply a place to belong.
Our July workshops continue that same spirit of nurturing and healing.
On Saturday, July 18 & Sunday, July 19, we're honored to welcome Amara for Nurturing Touch. This unique experience invites participants to reconnect with a profound sense of trust, safety, and support through nurturing touch — offering a gentle reminder of what it feels like to be held with compassion and care.
Then, on Sunday, July 26, our own beloved Yin Yoga instructor, Doris, will be offering a workshop inspired by supporting veterans and those living with PTSD. Whether you are a veteran yourself, love someone who has served, or simply wish to better understand the healing journey of trauma, this promises to be a meaningful and compassionate offering. I am especially excited to see Doris share this work, as it reflects the depth of care and wisdom she brings to our community.
Looking a little further ahead, Kaila's Reiki Level I Training has been rescheduled for September 5–6. Reiki holds a special place in my own life and, in many ways, helped guide Asha and me to become stewards of this beautiful space. I always look forward to watching others begin their own Reiki journey.
As always, keep an eye on our calendar as we continue adding workshops, gatherings, and opportunities to learn, heal, and grow together throughout the summer and beyond.
Whether you've been part of our community for years or you're considering visiting for the very first time, know that there is a place for you here. Thank you for helping make The Heart Center for Awakening more than just a studio. Together, we're creating a home for movement, mindfulness, healing, laughter, and authentic connection.
With gratitude,
Theodoryc

Help support our Community Beautification Initiative
by Sunday, July 5!
Place your thoughts on a heart at The Heart Center so we can share our collective voices with King County for grant funding opportunities.
Let us unite to address challenges in White Center — scattered trash, unsafe activity, and a sense that the space has been forgotten — on 15th Ave SW between SW Roxbury and 98th, right behind our studio.
This project is about more than plants and paint — it is about reclaiming a space that belongs to all of us. It’s about showing that when a community comes together — even a forgotten corner can become a place of beauty, safety, and belonging.
This block is worth investing in. Our community is worth investing in. A thoughtfully designed and cared for green space can help us:
- create a safer, cleaner environment for the White Center community
- reduce litter and improve visibility in the alley
- support the birds and wildlife already thriving in our area.
- offer a shared space for outdoor community gatherings
- provide opportunities for small businesses to host pop‑ups, music, and seasonal events
- strengthen the sense of connection and care in our neighborhood.
Hearts are in the studio — please drop in and show your support.
We are delivering the hearts to the King County Council on July 6.

Yin Yoga for Veterans and First Responders
Sunday, July 26
1:30 to 3 pm
led by Doris
$20
Join us for a special yin yoga class specifically curated for veterans and first responders. Yin yoga is a unique practice that can reduce stress, improve sleep, and release physical and emotional tension from demanding work and life experiences.
This class offers a quiet, supportive space for veterans and first responders to slow down, release tension, and reconnect with their bodies. Yin yoga uses gentle, long-held poses to target the deep connective tissues of the body while calming the nervous system. This meditative practice can help reduce stress, improve sleep, and support the release of physical and emotional tension often carried from demanding work and life experiences. No prior yoga experience is needed, just come as you are.
Doris is a certified EMDR therapist, specializing in trauma and anxiety. She is also a certified yoga teacher with additional certification in Therapeutic Yoga for Trauma and is a trauma-informed somatic yin yoga teacher. Her 29 years of experience as a therapist brings a unique perspective to her yoga teaching, allowing her to create a safe and supportive space for her students to embark on their own paths of self-discovery, healing, and empowerment through the practice.

So many of us are living with quiet hormonal imbalances, feeling tired all the time, fatigue that doesn’t lift, mood swings that come out of nowhere, sleep that won’t regulate, digestion that’s unpredictable, cycles that feel off, a sense that the body is working harder than it should, or unexplained weight loss or gain.
Most people never learn that the endocrine system is deeply responsive to breath, movement, stress patterns, foods, and daily habits — and that it can be supported naturally.
Through targeted kriyas, breath practices, meditation, and deep relaxation, we’ll work directly with the glands that influence energy, metabolism, mood, and reproductive health. You’ll learn how the nervous system and the HPA axis shape hormonal balance, and how ayurveda offers clear, practical tools to support long‑term glandular health.
If your body has been asking for balance, clarity, or a reset, this retreat and class series offer direct, accessible ways to support your endocrine health from the inside out.
Led by Shabadrang Bandhana Kaur Khalsa, 200‑hr YTT in Hatha, Vinyasa, and Kundalini Yoga, and a Master’s student in Ayurveda & Integrative Medicine.

We are THRILLED to offer our 200-hour Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training
Fall-Winter 2026-27
Everyone is welcome to participate.
Participants who are not looking for certification may attend any units at their leisure with no requirements.
STAY TUNED! We will announce dates soon!
This training is taught under The School of Himalayan Kundalini Yoga, centered around the Mahasiddha Baba Sri Chand Meditation Centre, an ashram established by Yogi Amandeep Singh, based in Punjab, India.
The foundation of Kundalini Yoga is the awakening of awareness, and this can only be taught by first enlivening it within yourself. In every module of this training, the aim is to strengthen the inner teacher — the inner knower — so your guidance comes from lived experience rather than memorized information.
When you are connected to this inner knower, teaching stops being performative. It becomes an expression of your own presence, and students learn naturally, you teach intuitively, and with ease. By understanding the history of these teachings, the tools and technologies that support awakening, and the deeper purpose behind awareness itself, you develop both the skill and the consciousness needed to teach authentically.
This training is designed to deepen your personal practice, and for those who choose, to prepare you to step confidently into the role of a Kundalini Yoga teacher.
