A Note from Camie
This last training weekend we went into the belly brain, that whole web of nerve cells wrapped around your gut that's talking to your brain constantly, not just the other way around. Almost all your serotonin gets made down there, in your belly, long before it ever reaches your head. Your gut isn't just along for the ride.
Summer here is fire. Heat outside, heat inside, everybody moving fast and running hot. It's easy to get swept up in that pace and forget the belly is doing quiet work the whole time, keeping you steady while the season pushes you toward more, more, more.
Balance this time of year isn't about putting the fire out. It's about giving your belly brain room to do its job while the fire above keeps you moving. Our teachers have studied this deeply, and it shows up in how they build class, in the pacing, the pauses, the way a sequence lets your nervous system catch up with your effort.
If summer's got you running hot, come let us help you find the container for it. That's what the mat is for.

The Story of Abilene Yoga House
This year marks a decade of breath, movement, and community at AYH. To celebrate this milestone, we’re taking a 7-week trip down memory lane, counting down to our biggest celebration yet.
I got certified after my second child was born. Postpartum, dealing with weight and body changes, yoga was what brought me back into my own body, back to my own breath. There was a lot of unraveling happening in me that season too, work I didn't even understand I was doing yet, finding my way back to the person God had quietly told me I was all along. I hadn't even met her yet. That's the practice, really. Calming the fluctuations of the mind. You keep coming back. I didn't understand pause back then. I thought everything needed a big gut reaction, a fast answer, something to protect myself with. Learning to pause was its own kind of practice, maybe the hardest one. I taught for a while at a local studio, built relationships, learned a lot about impermanence long before I had the words for it, and eventually needed a break and stepped away.
I cleared out my living room furniture and offered one yoga class a week, invites sent out over text. No Venmo back then, we were still just getting started with social media too.

That one class grew. Before long we were two days a week, no furniture left in the living room at all, just mats, breath, and people showing up for both. The students wanted more, and we outgrew the space fast. It was also just not sustainable for my family to have a studio in our house. Nothing stays the same shape for long. That's the practice too.
We found a spot on Tannehill that had been used for machinery, completely run down. I put in cork floors, good lighting, calm wall colors, and turned it into a real studio. We stayed there for years. It's where I ran my first teacher training. It's where GlowGa started, black lights and neon paint. We should bring that back.
We built relationships all over town during this stretch: Wine and Unwind at The Mill, Bend and Brew at Sockdolagers, The Local, the Zoo, yoga on the rooftop at The Grace, outdoor classes when the weather allowed. That was a season of real momentum, and the studio grew quickly.

Floating Sound Bath

Why float? > Floating deepens relaxation and opens your body to the vibration in a way a standard mat simply can't. You'll only get your feet wet getting onto your raft. Your body stays completely dry, gently supported on the water while the sound washes over you.
We only offer these six times a year. When a spot opens, it's worth taking.

What to bring: Comfy clothes, a swimsuit underneath if you'd like to swim before or after, a beach towel, and a small pillow. Keep in mind these items may get wet.
