It involves taking deliberate actions to care for oneself physically, emotionally, and mentally. However, how we engage in self-care should vary depending on the seasons of life we experience.
During times of high stress, self-care may involve relaxing and practicing mindfulness techniques. During periods of increased physical activity, self-care may involve proper nutrition and sufficient rest. The key is to be intentional and adaptive in our self-care practices and stay in tune with our journey and where we are in our life cycle.
Yoga is a powerful tool that can assist in self-care during any season of life. The practice of yoga involves a combination of physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation practices, which can improve physical health, reduce stress, and promote mental clarity. Nurturing Yourself with Yoga Workshop

Join us for a rejuvenating and empowering experience at our Nurturing Yourself with Yoga Workshop, hosted by the knowledgeable and experienced Amanda Jackson. As we prioritize self-care this month, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn how to incorporate self-care into your regular yoga practice.
Taking place on Saturday, March 18th from 1pm to 3pm, this workshop is designed to help students deepen their understanding of how to bring a gentle touch to any yoga class. Amanda will share tips and techniques for making your yoga practice a serious act of self-care, both on and off the mat. You'll learn how to approach yoga poses with compassion and without judgement, allowing you to handle challenges that may arise during your practice.
In addition to a 75-minute practice, which will focus on finding balance and understanding boundaries in yoga class, there will be plenty of time for Q&A and discussion. To wrap up the workshop, Amanda will provide tea for participants to enjoy while reflecting on their experiences.
This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience, whether you're a seasoned yogi or a beginner. Space is limited, so advanced registration is required. The cost is $40 per person, but if you're a Body Balance auto-renewal or annual member, you'll receive a discounted rate of $30. Spiritually the Spring Equinox represents a time of growth and rebirth and, just as the earth is coming alive again after the winter season, so will your soul and spirit. But when the season first starts to shift, you may start to feel a little off balance.

Child’s Pose: The Ultimate Self-Care Posture
|
|
|
|
Child's Pose, or Balasana in Sanskrit, is a yoga posture that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation. This asana is often used as a resting pose during a yoga or self-care practice.
Child's Pose can benefit physical, mental, and emotional health. Physically, it stretches the hips, thighs, and ankles while reducing neck, shoulders, and back tension. Mentally and emotionally, Child's Pose can help calm the mind, relieve stress, and promote comfort and security.
To do Child's Pose:
- Begin on your hands and knees, with your wrists directly under your shoulders and your knees directly under your hips.
- Take a deep breath in, and slowly lower your hips back towards your heels as you exhale.
- Rest your forehead on the ground or a block or cushion if needed. Your arms can be extended in front of you, palms facing down, or you can rest them alongside your body with your palms facing up.
- Note: There is an energy point at the center of the forehead in between the eyebrows that stimulates the vagus nerve and supports a "rest and digest" response. Finding a comfortable place for the forehead is key to gaining this soothing benefit.
- Take slow, deep breaths and allow your body to relax into the pose. Stay here for several deep breaths or as long as feels comfortable.
- To release the pose, slowly walk your hands back towards your body and come back up onto your hands and knees.
It's important to remember that every body is different, so it's okay if your Child's Pose looks slightly different than someone else's. If you experience any discomfort or pain in the pose, come out of it slowly and gently. You can also modify it by placing a cushion or blanket under your knees or forehead for extra support.
Overall, incorporating Child's Pose into your self-care routine can help promote relaxation and reduce mental and physical stress.

Shaye Molendyke, who was scheduled to teach a yoga class at 5:30pm on Tuesday afternoon, called at 5:01 saying she was stuck in traffic and didn’t think she could make it to the studio in time to teach her class. So now it’s “go” time for the Body Balance Dream Team! Another phone call went out and a plan of action was implemented, and within minutes Dawn Curran stepped forward and volunteered to teach the class.

Here's the part of the story where yoga comes into play:
A text message conversation between Shaye and Dawn:
Shaye: "Dawn, thank you so very much!!! I owe you."
Dawn: "You are welcome! You must have been so stressed out trying to get to the studio! It all worked out, so no worries!"
Shaye: "I was! And then I realized there was literally nothing I could do to change my circumstances…all of my years of yoga training helped – I am so grateful to you!"

Despite the last-minute change in plans, everything went off without a hitch. Shaye and Dawn handled the situation with grace and compassion, and everyone involved had a newfound appreciation for the power of teamwork!
Shaye’s yoga training had taught her the importance of living out the Amor Fati belief of accepting one's fate and being content in that moment. After all, Life Happens, Yoga Helps!
