Harvesting The Benefits of Your Practice

Hello there,

As the Autumn Equinox approaches, nature gently shifts from the vibrant outward energy of summer into a season of balance, reflection, and harvest. September invites us to slow down, settle into more structured routines, and turn inward to gather the fruits of our steady efforts.

Quite often, as we settle onto the mat for final rest at the end of class, you may hear us say: “Just relax and receive the benefits of your practice.”

In our busy modern lives, we are so often conditioned to strive, produce, and move onto the next task. Yet in yoga, the physical postures (asanas) and breathwork (pranayama) are only part of the journey. The true integration happens in Savasana—when we release all remaining tension, quiet the "collective noise" of the mind, and simply allow ourselves to receive.

"Prayatna śaithilyānanta samāpattibhyām" - By loosening effort and relaxing tension, posture is mastered and attention merges with the infinite.

Patanjali’s sutra reminds us that true steadiness and ease (sthira and sukha) come not from forcing results, but from the intentional release of effort. Just as an autumn harvest only comes after a full season of growth, Savasana is your personal harvest, a quiet sanctuary where your nervous system resets, your mind clears, and you absorb the peace and vitality you have cultivated. This September, we invite you to step onto your mat not to accomplish anything external, but to grant yourself the gift of total relaxation.

Peace and gratitude,

Heather & Rob

Analogy for Fall Practice:

Think of Savasana this month like sitting down after gathering an autumn harvest; after pouring steady time, breath, and care into tending the soil of your body and mind, this quiet pause is when you unburden yourself and nourish your spirit with the deep, restorative fruits of your practice.

Teacher & Class Spotlight: Julie Glick & LYT

Our spotlight this month is on teacher, Julie Glick who teaches a class we offer three times a week, the LYT Method. A Yogi for 20+ years, Julie knows the value of strength, alignment and dedication as well as the joy of expression through physicality. Julie enrolled in Yoga Teacher training because nothing feels better than sharing something you love!

Julie completed her 200-hour RYT certification in 2018. A desire to enhance her Yoga teaching skills as well as a chronic back injury led Julie to the LYT Yoga - the perfect marriage between Yoga and aligned, functional movement patterns. The benefits and her love of LYT inspired her to seek a 200-hour then 300-hour certification in LYT Yoga. If you are not familiar with LYT Yoga, please learn more below!

LYT is a core-based movement method created by physical therapist Lara Heimann, who applied her background in neurodevelopmental rehabilitation and her experience working with thousands of teachers and students in order to help people discover more optimal movement patterns.

Through a deep understanding of the musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and neurological systems, LYT can help anyone move smarter, move better and feel more at home in their body. The patented LYT blueprint sets the foundation for intelligent movement that increases strength, flexibility and agility.

WHAT MAKES LYT UNIQUE? LYT is rooted in science, combines evidence-based principles with a deep understanding of the body, and leads to more efficient, effective and sustained physical practices. LYT is more than just going through the motions; it is a conscious movement that engages the body, mind and spirit.
